Boxing is quite a simple sport/defence done all over the world. Boxing is done only with fists and nothing more. No legs, forearms, elbow etc, just punches. Boxing has a number of punches and no more making it fairly easy to learn. Boxing also has some very good training routines for getting your body in shape as well as developing your punches. Boxing like I said has a number of punches that are fairly easy to learn. There punches are,
. Jab
. Cross
. Hook
. Uppercut
Jab
The jab is the simplest punch in boxing. A Jab is thrown by the leading fist. Example if you have left foot forward it will be the left fist you punch with as the right had will be at the back. Jab is always done with the leading hand. A jab although simple can still do some damage, yet it is still not as good as the rest.
Cross
A Cross is much like a jab but done from the fist at the back. A cross is done by pivoting on the back foot and throwing the first at the target. Since the fist has a longer distance to travel it may have more power and impact since it gets more time to build up the power. Cross although takes a little longer to throw can still give great impact.
Hook
A Hook is one of the deadliest punches in boxing. A hook involves punching but instead of going strait you are punching to the side. Example you through a jab it is strait at the face, however if you do a hook you are coming round and into the face. A Hook can do some good damage if you put enough power into it. A hook can be done with either foot, but the back fist needs a pivot like the cross.
Uppercut
An uppercut is usually done to the jaw of a target. As it involves throwing the first up into something and the jaw is the most likely place to do that. An uppercut if powerful enough will easily break a jaw. Like the cross if you are using the back foot it needs a pivot. I find the best way to put power into an uppercut is to twist your body at the same time. This gives it an extra boost.
The good thing about boxing is that since it’s so simple it is very easy to make combinations. Boxing yet a defence can also be done professionally. To me when a Jedi learns self defence boxing is the very first step. Quick and easy to learn.
